Several councils have told BBC Scotland there has been a drop in the number of supply teachers registered locally.

Scotland's biggest teaching union, the EIS, claimed the situation is at crisis point.

It argued the main reason is a cut to the amount some supply teachers are paid."

The government knows there is a crisis in supply teaching, however, they are still reluctant to restore our pay. I have had lots of calls for short term and I guess I will be working short term most of the year at point one of the scale!! My years of experience in the classroom count for nothing- very demoralizing!! The country doesn't need to train more teachers, what it needs is to restore the pay of supply teachers in order to bring back the people who have left the profession since this unfair deal was approved by the EIS.
